Pharmaceuticals & Biotech companies are conducting research (some in clinical trials) of cannabinoids to treat pain & anorexia (from medical etiologies, not anorexia nervosa) and as an anti-emetic (there are additional potential indications as well). This news will just spur them on in what will likely be the next wave of increased politicalization of medicine (both at the FDA & at your local pharmacy).
GW Pharmaceuticals has now recived approval from Health Canada and launched the mouth spray Sativex (tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol) for the treatment of pain in patients with MS. The drug had previously been submitted to the British Health Authorities in 2003, last December the company was asked to provide additional efficacy data to support its filling.
