The Red Queen said

First Lady Queen-consort Laura Bush decried charges of racism against husband, King George, as "disgusting" indicating that while he cares about "everyone in our country", he doesn't exactly care about them equally. In fact, he cares least for poor people [emphasis added]

"I think all of those remarks were disgusting, to be perfectly frank because, of course, President Bush cares about everyone in our country, and I know that," Laura Bush told a journalist with American Urban Radio Networks on one of her flights to survey damage in Mississippi.

"I mean I am the person who lives with him. I know what he is like, and I know what he thinks, and I know how he cares about people."

He's most definitely not racist, she said, it just so happens that about 2/3 of the city of New Orleans is populated with black people and many of them live at, or below, the poverty line. She also said that had these black people not lived in poor neighborhoods, they'd have been less susceptible to things that can negatively affect poor people such as flooding after an emergency like a hurricane [emphasis added]

"I do think -- and we all saw this -- was that poor people were more vulnerable. They live in poor neighborhoods; their neighborhoods were the ones that were more likely to flood, as we saw in New Orleans.

"Their housing was more vulnerable, and that's what we saw and that's what we want to address in our country."

The best way, it seems, to address problems such as this is to do away with poor neighborhoods when, in the face of a pending disaster, the government declares an emergency that does not cover those areas most vulnerable to that disaster.

UPDATE 12:55: Jesus H. friggen Christ! We all knew it but I sure as Hell didn't think the Repubevangelicals would actually come out and admit it via Pam:

Rep. Baker of Baton Rouge is overheard telling lobbyists: "We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did."
